U10.1: A Game that built character
Sunday was to be a big challenge for our young U10.1 team as they faced the current table leaders, Rheinstars Köln.
In their previous outing Köln Rheinstars proved why they are table leaders with strength, skill and speed throughout their team.
This time it was our turn to host Rheinstars and our U10.1 were ready for the challenge. In a tight, noisy and emotion filled gym our U10.1 took an early lead finishing the first 1/8 15-9.
There was much excitement as every basket was strongly contested from both sides and everything was at a very intense pace.
After the following two 1/8s both teams remained almost tied with Rheinstars just edging ahead at 30-32.
The game was being played at a very high intensity throughout and BG Bonn were working very hard, in particular in defence.
A breakthrough took place in the fourth 1/8th as Rheinstars pulled ahead to end the half 42-60 ahead. They also started better in the second half extending their lead to 44-72.
However, our team dug deep and continued to compete throughout with a final score of 77-101.
This was a game that builds character. All our players had given their all, competed throughout in a quite physical encounter with lots of external pressure due to the loud supporters in a tight space.
Our U10.1 have lots of positives to take away from this game and will have learned a lot that’ll benefit them if they encounter Rheinstars again in the later stages.
Well done to Niki, Oliver, Liam, Max, Theo, Nicolas, Finja, Jakob, Antonella & Vicky.
